The locality Vatro Pole (until June 29, 1942, Uzana) is located on the territory of the Gabrovo municipality, at the foot of Mount Ispolin (1523.40 m) (its old name was Mount Korudzha), in the western part of the Shipchen section of the Middle Stara Planina , in the heart of Bulgaria. The closest starting point to the high mountain meadow is the town of Gabrovo, which is only 22 km away by asphalt road.
Since 2009, the locality has the status of a resort complex. Here is located the Geographical Center of Bulgaria, which was measured in 1991. The same year, a sign was placed that marks the middle of the territory of our country and is a stylized form of a pyramid, colored in the colors of the national tricolor. Since 2008, the site has been included in the National Tourist Movement "100 National Tourist Sites" under number 19 (in the newer editions of the stamp booklet - under number 19 a), together with Ethnographic Open Air Museum "Eter", National Museum of education and the museum "House of Humor and Satire" in the city of Gabrovo. The proximity to the city makes it possible to visit other cultural and historical sites besides the ones mentioned - the Sokol Monastery, the Architectural and Historical Reserve "Bozhentsi". The seal of the site can be found in the Visitor Information "Uzana" center, which works all year round and without days off.
The area is traditionally associated with opportunities for rest and recreation in nature. It is the widest herb meadow in Stara planina and is surrounded on all sides by centuries-old beech forests. Its altitude varies from 1,220 to 1,350 m, with the highest point being Mount Markov Stol (1,352 m). The locality is the starting point for the territory of two parks: to the west - Central Balkan National Park and to the east - Natural Park "Bulgarka". The locality and the region are suitable for rock climbing and speleology, hiking, mountain biking.
Uzana is a popular winter resort. There are eight tracks in the area, the largest of which is 1300 m long. All tracks are equipped with tows (two are of the "panichkov" type, the rest - with a grip). The snow-covered meadow is a good field for kite-boarding.
The nature in the locality and the region has a high degree of preservation, with rare flora and fauna protected in the Red Book. The locality is included in the framework of the European and National ecological networks Natura 2000.
Uzana attracts people with its clean mountain air, silence and magnificent nature. The international tourist route E-3, connecting the Adriatic with the Black Sea, passes through the area, which is known as the "Kom - Emine" tourist route on the territory of Bulgaria. To the west, it continues to the "Mazalat" hut and the Triglav massif (2276 m), and to the east - to the Shipka pass and Hadji Dimitar peak (formerly - Buzludzha peak).
